Speaking of research, some developers already preparing games for the upcoming audience of retirees. Today I learned about a company that offers analysis on how older adults play digital games.
The accessibility challenges they face when doing so. And how they can be motivated to play new digital games? One of their services is to achieve a health outcome by teaching contemporary culture to the older adult community.
The Brukel house history
Today I came across unique news. A video game dedicated to the older audience. The game called Brukel, is a first-person exploration game that is reflecting the memories of Bie Verlinden.
A 92 years old grandmother inviting players to join her memories by taking pictures of what left in the Brukel farmhouse.
The mechanic of the game is to use a camera phone to take photos of different places to discover unique items, while Bie Verlinden commenting on it. Bie is a survivor of World War II, in which she was born at the Brukel farmhouse.

The game won several awards, including but not limited to. BEST DIGITAL GAME Meaningful Play 2018. Gold Medal at the International Serious Play Awards, sensitizes today’s generations about the impact of war on innocent people through the voice of a reminiscing 92-year-old grandmother. The developer interviewed his grandmother back in 2014 and started to collect the memories for the game. The project took five years to come to light after hard work and dedication. They started the house exterior then the surrounding areas; then, they remade the house exterior as it needs details. The developer was humbled and gave credit to some of his students on helping him finishing some of the 3D arts.
As a result, the game overall is excellent in content, the intensity and the history gave the game a distinctive flavor of action, in my opinion, what makes it unique is the aspect of reality in it.
