Top 10 Most Beautiful Open Worlds in MMORPGs

10 Most Beautiful Open Worlds in MMORPGs

In this list, we’re looking at the 10 most beautiful open worlds in MMORPGs. A gorgeous world can do wonders for immersion, and it’s always fun to turn a corner into a jaw-dropping scene. So let’s see what games do a great job of making their world beautiful to look at.

Black Desert Online

It’s hard to talk about visuals in a game of any kind and not talk about Black Desert Online. It’s a gorgeous game with a beautiful world to explore. The setting is fantastic and immersive and does wonders for the game.

New World

Don’t sleep on New World when talking about wonderful world-building. The game’s atmosphere is at times stunning, and the audio effects take the world immersion to the next level.

ArcheAge

For all its gameplay shortcomings, ArcheAge nailed the aspect we’re looking at today; a beautiful open world. The game has several gorgeous zones that almost make up for the grindy pay-to-win. Almost. Don’t forget that ArcheAge 2 seems to be making big changes by shifting the focus more to the PvE side of things.

Guild Wars 2

The world of Guild Wars 2 is painted in a watercolor aesthetic that makes it quite unique in the MMORPG genre. There are even Vistas to discover that give you a sweeping view of the gorgeous surrounding areas.

Lord of the Rings Online

No matter where I looked, Lord of the Rings Online kept coming up in discussions of beautiful MMO worlds. The game’s graphics may be a bit dated, but that hasn’t stopped the development team from creating breathtaking zones that many more modern games would be envious of. Of course, the focus on detail when bring Tolkien’s lands to life may have something to do with that.

Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online has some very unique zones that set it apart from many other MMOs. My personal favorites are the Telvanni zones where large alien mushrooms and cascading mountains fill the zones. There are some truly stunning areas to explore in ESO.

Conan Exiles

The world of Conan Exiles is definitely easy on the eyes. They do a lot to make a barren landscape seem inhabited. Add to that some of the creative structures players create and you have yourself a world full of life. Makes us a bit eager to see Dune: Awakening.

World of Warcraft

Ok, this one may be a bit divisive. Most people either love or hate the art style of World of Warcraft, but the team at Blizzard is definitely constantly improving the visuals of the game and there are plenty of examples of gorgeous zones in WoW.

Final Fantasy XIV

It’s hard to not include Final Fantasy XIV on this list. The game’s world looks fantastic, and there are always new things to see as you explore each corner of that world. Fans of FFXIV would be quick to tell you that they play one of the most beautiful MMORPGs out there.

Blade & Soul

Blade & Soul doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves for how beautiful of a game it is, but I’m here to correct that. Combine the gorgeous world with the unique combat system and you’ve got a world worth fighting for.

Did we miss an MMORPG that you think is just gorgeous? Lay it on us in the comments and we’ll be sure to go check out the beautiful digital vistas ourselves, if we haven’t already!
